SYLVIA WRIGHT EARNS ENDORSEMENTS FROM FORMER STATE REPRESENTATIVE BAKARI SELLERS AND FORMER SC SUPERINTENDENT INEZ TENENBAUM
Two of South Carolina’s Most Respected Leaders Unite Behind Wright’s Campaign for Superintendent of Education
COLUMBIA, S.C. — The campaign to elect Sylvia Wright as South Carolina’s next Superintendent of Education proudly announces two landmark endorsements from two of the state’s most respected voices in politics and public education: former State Representative and CNN Political Commentator Bakari Sellers and former South Carolina Superintendent of Education Inez Tenenbaum. Together, they represent generations of distinguished public service and send an unambiguous message to voters across the Palmetto State: Sylvia Wright is ready to lead.
“Sylvia Wright is exactly the leader South Carolina’s children deserve. She is a proven educator, a tireless advocate, and someone who understands that public education is the great equalizer. I am proud to stand with her and urge every South Carolinian who believes in our children’s future to do the same.”
— Former State Representative Bakari Sellers
Inez Tenenbaum, who served as South Carolina Superintendent of Education from 1999 to 2006 and later as Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, brings singular authority to this endorsement. As the individual who has led the very office Wright seeks, Tenenbaum’s support is not simply a political gesture, it is a passing of the torch from one committed public servant to another.
“I am pleased to enthusiastically endorse Sylvia Wright for South Carolina State Superintendent of Education. Sylvia brings the experience, leadership, and commitment needed to provide every student in South Carolina a quality education. Sylvia has more than 20 years experience in public education including working as a classroom teacher, curriculum coordinator, adjunct professor, and school and district-level leader. She understands the challenges facing our public schools at the classroom level and will be a strong advocate for teachers and educational leaders. I encouraged voters to support Sylvia Wright for State Superintendent of Education.”
— Inez Tenenbaum, Former South Carolina Superintendent of Education
Sylvia Wright has built a career defined by service to South Carolina’s students and communities. With a platform centered on expanding access to quality education, closing achievement gaps, and ensuring every child — regardless of zip code — has the resources to succeed. Wright has galvanized educators, parents, and community leaders across all 46 counties.
“I am humbled and energized by the confidence that Senator Sellers and Superintendent Tenenbaum have placed in me. Their endorsements reaffirm why I entered this race: to fight for South Carolina’s children with leadership that is accountable, forward-thinking, and relentlessly committed to the success of all children. That is the Superintendent I will be.”
— Sylvia Wright, Candidate for South Carolina Superintendent of Education
These endorsements build on Wright’s growing coalition of support and underscore the broad-based energy surrounding her campaign. With momentum building heading into Election Day, the Wright campaign is poised to make history for South Carolina’s students.

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC — Today, lifelong educator and community leader Sylvia Wright officially announced her candidacy for South Carolina Superintendent of Education, pledging to put students, teachers, and families at the center of South Carolina’s education system.

With more than 20 years of experience spanning elementary, secondary, collegiate, and district-level leadership, Wright brings both a deep knowledge of classrooms and a clear vision for systemic change. She has served as a teacher, mentor, and advocate—earning a reputation for listening to students, collaborating with parents, and fighting for the resources educators need.

Wright’s academic background reflects her deep commitment to education. She holds a Bachelor’s degree, three Master’s degrees—including one from The Citadel—and is currently working towards a Doctor of Education at the University of South Carolina.
“I am running for Superintendent because our children deserve the very best education we can provide,” said Wright. “We cannot afford to leave any child behind. I’ve seen firsthand the challenges and the opportunities in our schools, and I am committed to strengthening teacher support, revitalizing our classrooms, and ensuring every student has the tools to succeed.”

Her platform centers on:
-
Advocating for Teachers: Restoring respect, not only recruit teachers but also retain them.

Student-Centered Innovation: Revitalizing arts, STEM, and career-readiness programs to prepare students for the future.
