Sylvia Wright Announces Candidacy for South Carolina Superintendent of Education
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC — Today, lifelong educator and community leader Sylvia Wright officially announced her candidacy for South Carolina Superintendent of Education, pledging to put students, teachers, and families at the center of South Carolina’s education system.
With more than 20 years of experience spanning elementary, secondary, collegiate, and district-level leadership, Wright brings both a deep knowledge of classrooms and a clear vision for systemic change. She has served as a teacher, mentor, and advocate—earning a reputation for listening to students, collaborating with parents, and fighting for the resources educators need.
Wright’s academic background reflects her deep commitment to education. She holds a Bachelor’s degree, three Master’s degrees—including one from The Citadel—and is currently working towards a Doctor of Education at the University of South Carolina.
“I am running for Superintendent because our children deserve the very best education we can provide,” said Wright. “We cannot afford to leave any child behind. I’ve seen firsthand the challenges and the opportunities in our schools, and I am committed to strengthening teacher support, revitalizing our classrooms, and ensuring every student has the tools to succeed.”
Her platform centers on:
-
Advocating for Teachers: Restoring respect, not only recruit teachers but also retain them.
-
Student-Centered Innovation: Revitalizing arts, STEM, and career-readiness programs to prepare students for the future.
-
Equity Across Communities: Ensuring rural, suburban, and urban districts receive the support they need
-
Transparency & Accountability: Building stronger connections between schools, families, and communities.
Wright has already traveled to 36 of South Carolina’s 46 counties, holding conversations with parents, teachers, and community leaders. Her campaign emphasizes listening and collaboration, not political division.
“This campaign isn’t about politics—it’s about people. It’s about our children, our teachers, and the future of South Carolina. Together, we can create an education system that reflects the excellence our state deserves,” Wright added.
The Wright campaign invites supporters to join the movement to reimagine education in South Carolina. To learn more, get involved, or make a contribution, visit www.wright2026sc.com.
