For 20+ Years, I’ve Been Blessed with Incredible Education Opportunities & Partners Across South Carolina
My Why
Over the last two decades, I've seen the triumphs and challenges of our education system, from the bustling classrooms of Sumter to the historic halls of Charleston.
I've felt the weight of responsibility, the joy of success, and the sting of systems that sometimes fall short.
But through it all, one thing remains clear:
our children deserve the best.

Meet Sylvia
I was born and raised in North Charleston, South Carolina. I am a product of South Carolina’s public education system. I attended Lambs Elementary, Goodwin Elementary, and Oakbrook Middle School. I graduated from Fort Dorchester High School. I continued my education earning advanced degrees from Columbia College and The Citadel. I am currently working on my Doctor of Education at the University of South Carolina, Columbia.

My family values serving others. My Dad retired from the United States Air Force and my Mom was a customer service agent for Southern Bell, also known as Bellsouth, until she retired. For the past two decades I have continued this legacy. I not only serve as a public school educator, I am actively involved with the youth department at my church and youth activities in the community. My children continue the legacy of service. My son is in the Air Force and my daughter is pursuing her nursing degree.

As a teacher, military spouse, and parent, I've walked in the shoes of many South Carolinians. With over 20 years of experience, I've seen the triumphs and challenges of our education system, from the bustling classrooms of Sumter to the historic halls of Charleston. I've felt the weight of responsibility, the joy of success, and the sting of systems that sometimes fall short. But through it all, one thing remains clear: our children deserve the best.

In my years as an educator, I've seen firsthand the ripple effect of policies on our students, teachers, and schools. The dedication of our educators is unparalleled, but they need more than just commitment; they need resources, support, and a system that values them beyond mere statistics.

Having traveled across states as part of a military family, I've seen the tapestry of educational needs that our diverse districts present. It's not about pitting one against the other; it's about understanding, collaboration, and tailored solutions. I believe in a South Carolina where every district, every school, and every classroom is a beacon of excellence.

With 20 years of hands-on experience, I bring a perspective that's grounded in reality, shaped by diverse experiences, and driven by a passion for change. My vision is clear: recruit and retain the best educators, foster safe and rigorous learning environments, and ensure every dollar is used effectively for our children's future.

I'm Sylvia Wright, and I'm here to work alongside you - the parents, educators, and stakeholders of South Carolina. Together, we can restore the promise of public education and a build system that stands as a testament to what we can achieve when we unite for our children. Join me in this journey.
“Teachers come to her with their concerns and frustrations as she always has a compassionate ear and a positive attitude. Sylvia has definitely seen firsthand the effects of poor leadership and has a wonderful vision for what needs to change both inside and outside the classroom. As an educator of 27 years, I fully support Sylvia Wright to be our guiding force in Columbia."

My teaching career began in 2004 at Mayewood Middle School in Sumter, SC. As I look back over my experience over the last twenty years as a teacher, department leader, school coordinator, instructional coach, and district administrator, I realize that these experiences shaped me into the educational leader that our state needs at this moment.

South Carolinians can no longer settle for the status quo. Book bans and vouchers are not the solution. It is time to RENEW our focus and provide safe and rigorous learning environments for all students, efficiently manage taxpayer dollars, nurture family and community engagement.
